Our Framework

EVERY PIECE OF TIMBER HAS A STORY TO TELL

At Reconstructed, we don’t just recycle timber — we reimagine it. Each piece we salvage carries decades of history, character, and strength. We hand-source timber from old homes, factories, and warehouses, restoring it with care and precision to create materials and products that are stronger, denser, and more sustainable than new timber. Here's an overview of how we transform old timber into high-quality, sustainable products:

Step 1 of the timber recycling process — recovered structural hardwood being sourced from a demolition site for reuse.

STEP 1

Salvage & Recovery

We collect timber from buildings, factories, warehouses, and other structures that are no longer in use. Instead of sending this valuable material to landfill, we recover as much usable timber as possible. Choosing the harder path means preserving history and reducing waste — because the easiest option isn’t always the best.

Step 2 of the timber recycling process — reclaimed hardwood being milled and prepared for reconstruction at the processing facility

STEP 2

Quality Control

Each piece is checked for structural integrity, signs of mould, fungi, insects, and physical damage. Only timber that meets our high standards is kept for reuse, while the rest is responsibly disposed of. Multiple checks ensure that our customers always receive premium-quality recycled timber.

Step 3 of the timber recycling process — reconstructed and profiled engineered hardwood floorboards ready for finishing

STEP 3

Milling & Restoration

After inspection, the timber is milled, re-machined, or restored depending on its condition. Some pieces, such as old floorboards, may only need sanding and polishing. Others are completely re-milled into new products like cladding, bench tops, or furniture. Every piece is carefully processed to highlight its natural beauty and strength.

STEP 4

Distribution & Installation

The finished timber is sorted, packed, and distributed from our Geelong warehouse. It is supplied across Melbourne and Australia-wide, ready for use in flooring, panelling, furniture, and a wide range of other applications.

Zero Carbon

We are committed to net zero carbon emissions. By choosing to recycle, we are keeping trees in the ground to absorb carbon dioxide in the air, creating a cleaner planet.

Reducing Landfill

Every year, two million tonnes of timber ends up in Australian landfill. Our goal is to reduce that by salvaging old timber and giving it a new life.

Saving Forests

Two million acres of forest is converted to fast timber plantations globally. By recycling timber, we are helping to save our precious forests.

Proof of Responsibility

OUR CERTIFICATIONS

At Reconstructed, sustainability isn’t a trend — it’s built into every decision we make. From energy use to logistics, we’re cutting waste, optimising transport, and offsetting what remains to keep our footprint as light as possible. Our certifications back that up. Each one represents years of refining our process to meet world-class environmental and ethical standards.

🌿 FSC® Certified

We source only timber verified by the Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC) — meaning it comes from responsibly managed forests and verified recycled sources. Every board we reclaim helps protect natural forests from over-harvesting and supports a circular timber economy.

🌏 B Corp Certified

As a Certified B Corporation, we’re measured not just by what we make, but by how we operate — with transparency, accountability, and purpose. It means we’re legally bound to balance profit with positive impact for people and planet.

🇦🇺 Australian Made & Owned

We’re proudly Australian made and owned. From our Geelong warehouse to the projects we supply nationwide, every stage of our process supports local jobs, materials, and industries.
